National Championship Spots on the Line in Seattle

LOS ANGELES -- LMU Cross Country competes in the 2012 NCAA Cross Country West Regional Championships at Jefferson Park Golf Course in Seattle, Wash. this Friday, Nov. 9. The women's 6k championship begins at 12:00 p.m., followed by the men's 10k championship at 1:15 p.m.

LION TRACKS: The Lions' men's and women's teams each finished fifth at the West Coast Conference Championships held Saturday, Oct. 27 in Portland, Ore. Under wet and muddy conditions, the Lions' women were led by senior Sheree Shea who finished third overall in the race with a time of 20:37, only two seconds behind the overall winner. LMU's men were led by junior Weston Strum who set a personal-best time of 23:58, seventh overall in the race. Shea and Strum were named to the All-WCC teams.

LAST YEAR AT THE WEST REGIONALS: Several Lions had record-setting days at the NCAA West Regionals held at the Stanford University Golf Course in Stanford, Calif. LMU alum Tara Erdmann broke her own personal record with a finish of 19:53 in the 6k race. Junior Weston Strum broke the LMU record in the 10k with a time of 30:35. Senior Tyre Johnson set a personal-best time at the meet.

AWARD WINNING PERFORMANCE: LMU senior Sheree Shea was named West Coast Conference Runner of the Month for September. Shea finished the month with a seventh-place finish at the Stanford Invitational, the best finish for a WCC runner at the meet.

The San Diego native began the month with an individual win at the Mark Covert Classic in Brea, Calif. hosted by Cal State Fullerton. With a time of 17:54.3 in the 5k race, she led her team to an overall win to start the 2012 cross country season. Shea followed up her winning performance in Brea with a second-place finish at the WCC Preview Race in Portland, Ore. The senior finished with the best time for a WCC runner at the meet, leading the LMU women's team to a second-place result. She finished the month coming in seventh at the Stanford Invitational, once again the best result for a WCC runner in the race. She guided the Lions' women's team to sixth-place in the race.
