Los Angeles, Calif. - Two-time Arizona state champion Tara Erdmann signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Lions' cross country and track programs next season, Loyola Marymount Head Coach Scott Guerrero announced Thursday. Erdmann will put on the Lion uniform following her standout career at Tucson's Flowing Wells High School.
"It would be an understatement to say that we're very excited to have Tara joining us in the fall," Guerrero said. "On paper, I would say she is probably the most talented recruit ever to pass through our door. I tell recruits all the time that LMU is great fit for the right type of individual, and Tara is really a remarkable young lady who impressed me from the beginning as someone who really knows what her priorities are. We're looking for talented student-athletes who want to attend a great academic institution and who want to have a real hand in getting our program to the next level. Tara is someone who fits that bill."
Erdmann was the 2005 5A-II State Champion in cross country and the 2006 State Champion in the 1600m in track. Her 2005 cross country state title earned her a spot on the All-Arizona first-team.
In addition to her 2006 state track title in the 1600m, Erdmann placed second in state in the 3200m and third in the 800m. In track, she was a two-time first-team All-Southern Arizona selection for Coach Mandee Fish.
Erdmann lettered in three sports for Flowing Wells, earning all-state honors in soccer as a three year starter on varsity, in addition to her cross country and track resume. Her all-around honors earned her Flowing Wells' Wendy's High School Heisman Award.
She has also succeeded in the classroom, posting a 3.56 cumulative grade point average heading into her senior year. Her GPA earned her a spot in the National Honor Society.
Erdmann signed with LMU after being recruited by Arizona State, Colorado, Boston College, and Duke.
"She turned down some other great offers in order to join our team," Guerrero said. "I think that speaks volumes about the kind of program that we are building here at Loyola Marymount. It's a great day for our program."
Erdmann is the daughter of Chris Haag and Jerry Erdmann.
