SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- LMU senior Sheree Shea has been named West Coast Conference Runner of the Month for the second time this season. The conference honor caps off a great campaign for the San Diego native, who won the same award in the season-opening month of September.
Shea received her latest honor after finishing 11th at the NCAA West Regionals, the best individual WCC performance in the race, and Shea was one of only two women in the top-12 who did not represent a Pac-12 school. Shea broke her previous record in the 6,000-meters by 39 seconds and qualified her for her first NCAA National Championships. At the nationals, Shea finished with a time of 21:23.2, which earned her 181st place at E. P. "Tom" Sawyer Park in Louisville, Ky.
Shea has collected an impressive list of awards this fall. In addition to her two WCC Runner of the Month awards, she was named to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association All-Regional team, she received WCC All-Academic honors in October, and Shea won an individual title at the season-opening Mark Covert Classic in September where she led the Lions to a team win.
Shea has one season of eligibility remaining in cross-country and two seasons of eligibility in track.
The Lions continued an impressive three-year stretch with November's WCC Runner of the Month award as an LMU runner has won seven of the last eight honors, with Shea's two awards this season preceded by five consecutive Runner of the Month wins by LMU alum Tara Erdmann.
