Junior catcher Cassidy Brown was the second Lion to be drafted in the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft, taken in the 12th round (#348 overall) by the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday afternoon. J.D. Busfield was drafted on Friday, selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the seventh round.

Junior Cassidy Brown has been named a semifinalist for the 2016 Gregg Olson Award presented by Toolshed Sports. The award honors college baseball’s breakout player of the year. The annual award is given to a top amateur baseball player who elevates his game to an elite level throughout the season.

Playing its final game of the 2016 season on Tuesday night at home against #25 Long Beach State, LMU (26-27) fought to the final out, putting the winning run in scoring position in the bottom of the ninth, but junior Austin Miller struck out to end the game as the Dirtbags (32-18) escaped Page Stadium with a 5-4 victory.
