Junior Cassidy Brown has been named a semifinalist for the 2016 Gregg Olson Award presented by Toolshed Sports. The award honors college baseball’s breakout player of the year. The annual award is given to a top amateur baseball player who elevates his game to an elite level throughout the season.

Playing its final game of the 2016 season on Tuesday night at home against #25 Long Beach State, LMU (26-27) fought to the final out, putting the winning run in scoring position in the bottom of the ninth, but junior Austin Miller struck out to end the game as the Dirtbags (32-18) escaped Page Stadium with a 5-4 victory.

LMU fought the entire way on Senior Day Sunday from Page Stadium, but Gonzaga (30-15, 16-8 WCC) finally put the Lions (26-26, 13-14 WCC) away in 12 innings, earning a 9-7 victory on a two-RBI single in the top of the 12th from Patrick Chung.

Needing a victory to stay alive in the race for the top-four in the WCC standings, LMU (26-25, 13-13 WCC) could not muster a run against right-hander Eli Morgan of Gonzaga as the Bulldogs (29-15, 15-8 WCC) posted a 4-0 shutout victory over the Lions on Saturday night from Page Stadium.

Opening a critical three-game West Coast Conference series on Friday at LMU’s Page Stadium, visiting Gonzaga (28-15, 14-8 WCC) scored twice in the first and two more in the ninth to beat LMU (26-24, 13-12 WCC) by a score of 4-1.
