Justin Abreu enters his fourth and final season with the LMU program...provides solid outings that always gives his team a chance to win...has matured in his previous three seasons...has become a leader of the LMU pitching staff...can throw all three of his pitches for strikes at anytime in the count...can give the Lions a lot of innings...had a fine summer playing for the Matsu Miners in the Alaska League...went 3-3 with a 2.43 ERA, striking out 29 in 59.2 innings, while allowing just 12 walks.

Allowed just one earned run in 5.1 innings against Portland and Cal State Fullerton...earned win in 3.0 innings against USC...earned second straight win with 5.2 innings of relief in 11-7 win over USF in game two...earned third straight win in start against USD...went 7. 0 innings in loss to SMC, 3-2 (4-6-02)...earned 7-5 win against USF (5-11-02), allowing just one earned run (three unearned) on seven hits in six innings of work...earned an 8-5 win over Portland (5-18-02), allowing five runs (four earned) on 10 hits in 7.2 innings...finished the season 5-5 with a 5.76 ERA, lowest on the team.

His appearances were cut in half from his freshman year to his sophomore year with only 11...pitched only 12 innings and finished 0-2 with an 9.00 ERA...struggled to recover from injury suffered as a freshman.
2000 Season Notes at LMU...
In his first season with the Lions, the freshman had a solid debut...he finished 4-1 with a complete game shutout and a save...his 3.72 ERA was second on the team...in 22 appearances, started three games and pitched in 58 innings, fourth on the team...held opponents to just a .267 batting average...allowed 63 hits, 27 runs, 23 walks and struck out 31...his best game was by far his complete game performance in a 2-0 win over UC Santa Barbara (5/9/00)...allowed only five hits and struckout a career high nine batters...allowed only nine base runners in the win...picked up a win against UCLA, pitching 3.2 innings...also defeated Cal State Fullerton, pitching 6.2 innings in the 11-2 victory...he allowed only five hits and one run (unearned) in the win over CS Fullerton...in his third win of season, went 2.1 innings against Portland and faced the minimum batters for his third win of the season...did not pitch in Regionals
He is a 1999 graduate of Bellarmine College Prep in San Jose, CA...finished with a 3.4 grade point average...was a two-sport athlete, he played both baseball and basketball...earned four varsity letters, two in each sport...captained his senior baseball squad for coach Gary Cunningham...was a first-team all-league and All-CCS pick his final campaign...guided his senior team to the league and section championships...earned honorable mention all-league honors as a senior in basketball...helped his team achieve the sectional championship in his final season.
Justin Jeffery Abreu was born Dec. 3, 1980 in Los Gatos, CA...he is the son of Don Abreu and Julie Sawyer...he has three brothers, Sean, Jayson and Jaxson, and one sister, Codie...he was also recruited by San Jose State and UC Santa Barbara...a business major.
