Briefly... Andy Beal is in his fourth season with LMU baseball... coaches praise him for doing everything they've ever asked of him, whether it be to start or come out of the pen... coaches note he is one of the toughest and most composed pitchers on the staff and know he will see a great number of innings again this season, whether as a starter or reliever...

At LMU... 2007... led the Lions with five saves and posted a 2-1 record for the season... finished fourth on the team with 18 appearances... pitched 5.0 scoreless innings on 2/24 to earn his first win of the season in a 6-5 victory over San Jose State... earned saves in all three games of a 3-game sweep of Cal Poly... did not allow a run during seven straight appearances at one point in February and March, a span of 12.0 innings in which he recorded two wins and three saves... 2006... led the team in strikeouts with 66 in 90.1 innings of work... posted a strikeout to walk ratio of 66:33... made 20 appearances on the season... threw the first 6.2 scoreless innings in a combined shutout effort over UC Santa Barbara... was not charged with a wild pitch or a balk in his more than 90 innings on the season... 2005... finished impressive freshman season 4-1 with a team-best 3.71 ERA and three saves... also led team with 31 appearances... tied for team lead with a .261 opponents' batting average... pitched one perfect inning to close out game one win in WCC Championship...

High School... a 2004 graduate of Palos Verdes Peninsula High School in Rolling Hills, Calif... ranked as Perfect Game USA's No. 54 prospect in the nation... went 9-1 with a 1.02 ERA and 82 strikeouts in 62 innings of work in 2004... was a four-time Daily Breeze All-Area selection and two-time Daily Breeze Area Player of the Year... hit .413 (33-for-80) with five home runs and 22 RBI, leading him to his second Bay League MVP honor... as a sophomore earned All-CIF first-team, Bay League MVP, and Daily Breeze Area Player of the Year selections for his 8-2, 0.79 ERA efforts... hit .455 that season... named California Freshman of the Year in 2001 and was the winning pitcher in the gold medal game against Venezuela as a member of the USA Baseball Junior Olympic team... prep coach was Roger Cannon... high school teammate of current LMU teammate Brett Mendoza...

Andrew Beal was born October 22, 1985, in Whittier, Calif... now calls Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. home... son of John and Linda Beal... father played baseball for La Salle... has two brothers, Greg and Chris, who attended Saint Mary's... also recruited by USC, Long Beach State, and Arizona State... a sociology major.
