Appeared in 40 games in his freshman campaign...earned 29 starts overall, with 16 at shortstop, nine at third base and four at second...finished the season hitting .253 (25-for-99)...he scored 10 times with four doubles and nine RBI...he had 29 total bases that included nine walks...he struckout 25 times...had four multiple-hit games...went 2-for-3 against Hawaii-Hilo in both the second and third game of the season (2/3/01 & 2/4/01)...had another 2-for-3 outing against Long Beach State (3/27/01)...went 2-for-3 with three RBI against Cal State Fullerton (4/17/01)...had a season-high five assists against San Diego (4/21/01) and Santa Clara (4/27/01).
He is a 2000 graduate of Arcadia High School in Arcadia, CA...had a 3.7 grade point average...was a two-sport star, earning two letters in football and three in baseball...was a team captain his final three years on the baseball team...was a three-time All-Arcadia City, All-San Gabriel Valley Area and All-Pacific League selection...was an all-CIF Division I selection his junior and senior seasons...the shortstop was a second-team All-America selection as a junior...was voted as the team's most valuable player...prep coach was Mike Parisi...was a two-time letterwinner and All-Pacific League selection in football...also earned all-city and all-area honors as a junior and senior.
Mark Anthony Carroll was born Oct. 14, 1981 in Fullerton, CA...he is the son of Richard and Judith Carroll...has two brothers, Erik and Patrick...also recruited by the University of San Diego...was involved with senior service club at Arcadia High School...major is urban studies.
