Vincent Cordova begins his third season of collegiate baseball with LMU...RHP with a lively arm in terms of velocity...had a tremendous fall showing a myriad of pitches...for team to have success in 2003 he needs to throw a lot of innings once again...good curve ball...highly recruited out of California High School... consistent with strikes and keeps the ball low in the strike zone...has shown great maturity in becoming one of the elite pitchers in the conference.
2002 Season Notes at LMU...
Earned first win of season in 5-4 decision over Cal Poly...earned 5-2 win in start against USD; going 5.2 innings and allowing just two runs...went 6.1 innings for the win against SMC...was solid in start in 7-5 win over Pepperdine (4-14-02), allowing five runs on 10 hits in a no decision...earned a win against Santa Clara (4-26-02), going seven innings and allowing just two earned runs on hits...earned a 14-5 win over San Diego on Friday (5-3-02), allowing just four earned runs on 10 hits in 6.1 innings...improved to 8-3 on the season and 6-1 in the WCC with a 13-4 win over USF (5-10-02)...he had allowed no runs and four hits through eight innings before Dons scored in the bottom of the ninth...led the Lions' staff with eight wins, going 8-4 overall and 6-2 in the WCC ï was an honorable mention All-Conference selection.
2001 Season Notes at LMU...
Finished his freshman campaign with 18 appearances, 14 as a starter...he finished with a 5.23 ERA and a 3-4 record as the Lions primary starter in the rotation...finished with 75.2 innings pitched, allowing 44 earned runs and striking out 42 batters...he closed the season going seven or more innings in his final two starts...allowed three earned runs in a seven-inning outing against San Francisco (5/6/01)...followed that outing with a seven-inning performance against Gonzaga (5/12/01), allowing four runs on just seven hits...he had a seven strikeout performance in a 6.1-inning outing against Cal Poly (3/2/01), allowing just three hits and one earned run.
He is a 2000 graduate from California High School in Whittier, CA...finished with a 4.1 grade point average...was a three-year letterwinner in baseball...was captain his senior season...was voted to the all-area team his sophomore, junior and senior seasons...those seasons also earned him All Del-Rio League honors...was a second-team All-CIF selection his junior season and first-team his senior season...led team to CIF Championship a year ago...won Del-Rio League three consecutive years...voted as the Whittier Daily News Player of the Week last season...voted Pitcher of the Year in 1999, along with Del-Rio League MVP and first-team All-CIF in 2000...was a three-time all-conference academic team selection...participated in the 2000 North/South All-Star game.
Vincent Harwood Cordova was born April 16, 1982 in Los Alamitos, CA...he is the son of Arthur and Donna Cordova...has a brother, Thomas, and a sister, Roseann...names the CIF Championship his high school baseball team won as his most memorable athletic moment...chose LMU for its baseball program and coaching staff...was heavily recruited on the West Coast...major is business.
