LMULions.com caught up with Head Coach Jason Gill after a practice during fall.
Steve Cortez joined the LMU Athletic Training staff in January of 2008 and works primarily with the baseball, men's crew and women's volleyball programs.
Prior to joining LMU, Cortez worked as the Head Athletic Trainer and teacher at St. Paul High School in Santa Fe Springs, Calif. beginning in August of 2006. Cortez, who has spent stints working as an Athletic Trainer for FedEx and as a personal trainer at 24 Hour Fitness, got his start in athletic training as a student athletic trainer at Cal State Fullerton in August of 2001. After finishing college, Cortez took an internship with the Anaheim Angels Baseball Club in July of 2003, which led to a job as an athletic trainer for the Angels in Mesa, Ariz. during the 2004 season.
Cortez received a Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology from Cal State Fullerton in 2004, graduating Cum Laude. A member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association since 2003, Cortez is a National Strength and Conditioning Association certified strength and conditioning specialist, and is also certified by the American Red Cross for CPR/AED for the professional rescuer.
Cortez currently resides in his hometown of Whittier, Calif.
