Cory Abbott recently completed his third season with LMU baseball...selected in the second round (67th pick) of the 2017 MLB Draft by the Chicago Cubs...highest draft pick for LMU since 2000 (Billy Traber - 1st, Mets; Michael Schultz - 2nd, Arizona)...

2017... first team All-American according to Collegiate Baseball, Baseball America and Perfect Game, and a second team All-American according to NCBWA, the ABCA, and D1Baseball... ABCA/Rawlings All-Region pick... College Baseball Foundation Pitcher of the Year Finalist... WCC Pitcher of the Year... Gregg Olson Breakout Player of the Year Semifinalist... first team All-WCC... LMU Male Athlete of the Year... three-time National Pitcher of the Week... five-time Rawlings WCC Pitcher of the Week... tossed first perfect game in LMU history on 3/25 vs. BYU (13 strikeouts, 106 pitches, 4 3-ball counts), as LMU defeated BYU, 2-0...went 11-2 with a 1.74 ERA, two complete games and three shutouts over 15 starts, guiding LMU to its first WCC Championship since 2000...logged 98.1 innings and struck out 130 hitters while limiting the opposition to just 61 hits, a .173 average against and 27 total runs scored (19 earned)... LMU went 12-3 in his starts... turned in the lowest opponent batting average (.173) and most strikeouts-per-nine innings (11.90), second-best ERA (1.74), second-most shutouts (2), fourth-most strikeouts (130), and seventh-most wins (11) in LMU history for a single season... led the WCC in victories (11)... was first in the WCC in WHIP (0.91), hits allowed per nine (5.58) and ERA (1.74)... second in WCC in strikeouts (130)... tossed 18.2 scoreless innings from March 19 - April 2, but allowed two unearned runs in the second inning on March 19 and an unearned run in the fifth on April 2... did not allow an earned run over 43 innings from March 12 - April 22... logged 11 quality starts in 15 turns (one start was staff day 2.0 inning start at UCR on 5/8)... complete-game shutout at Gonzaga on 5/13 (9.0 IP, 5 H, 3 BB, 12 K) en route to being named Rawlings WCC Pitcher of Week for fourth time... went 8-0 with a WCC record 0.27 ERA over nine starts and 67 innings against WCC teams... Collegiate Baseball and Rawlings WCC Pitcher of the Week after going 7.0 IP with LMU record-tying 16 K at Portland on 5/20... picked up win vs. San Diego on 4/29 (8.0 IP, 3 H, 3 UER, career-best 15 K)... for his efforts, was named WCC Rawlings Pitcher of the Week and Collegiate Baseball National Pitcher of the Week... struck out 11 over 6.0 innings in a victory at Pepperdine on 4/22... 8.0 shutout innings at Saint Mary's on 4/15 to record seventh win of season (8.0 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 10 K, 106 Pitches)... picked up victory over Santa Clara on 4/9 (7.0 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 9 K)... earned the victory at USF (7.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 8 K, 107 pitches)... earned the victory at Arizona State on 3/5 (6.1 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 2 HR, 2 BB, 2 K, 105 pitches)... earned the win in first start of season vs. #19 UCSB (5.0 IP, 4 H, ER, 4 K)...

2016... went 5-5 with a 4.24 ERA over 14 appearances and 12 starts... combined on one shutout and tossed 70 innings... struck out 34 hitters... was 4-3 with a 4.80 ERA in WCC play... made nine appearances and eight starts against conference foes... limited left-handed hitters to a .231 average... pitched eight shutout innings vs. Pepperdine on 4/16... capped a string of three straight quality starts at Pacific on 4/23, tossing seven innings, allowing just one earned run and striking out five... victory in quality start at FIU on 3/5, tossing eight innings...

2015... made 27 appearances and one start, pitching to a 1-1 record and a 2.37 ERA... recorded one save while contributing 49.1 innings of work and combining on a shutout... struck out 32 hitters and limited opponents to a .202 average against with just 10 walks... led all pitchers with three pickoffs... had lowest ERA amongst LMU pitchers in WCC play, registering a 1.12 mark in 14 appearances and 24 innings... held WCC foes to just a .184 average while striking out 16... limited opponents to a .174 average with runners on base, and a .158 clip with two out... threw 2.0 scoreless innings and struck out one against Saint Joseph's on 2/20... contributed 3.2 innings and allowed just one run at #20 Arkansas on 3/7... 5.0 shutout frames of relief with six strikeouts and no hits allowed to keep LMU in the game on 3/14 vs. Santa Clara, ultimately helping the Lions walk-off with a 6-5 victory in 10... threw 4.2 scoreless innings and allowed just one hit while striking out four over two WCC Championship Tournament appearances...

A 2014 graduate of Serra High School in San Diego, Calif... prepped under head coach Scott Hopgood... a four-year varsity letter winner, including serving as team captain in his senior season... All-League selection as a junior and senior... recorded the lowest ERA in Serra history as a junior (0.73)... posted a 1.52 ERA as a senior... offensively, hit .421 as a senior with 23 runs scored and 27 RBI... took home Central League Player of the Year honors as a junior and senior... Union Tribune San Diego All-Academic selection in each of his final two seasons...
