Earned 7-5 win over UCSB (2-2-02), going 6.1 innings, allowing four runs on four hits with six strikeouts...had longest outing of season with 5.2 innings at Texas in the loss...went six innings in start against MSU, allowing just two runs on seven hits to set-up Lions win...earned save with 3.1 innings of relief in game two of USD series, allowing no runs on two hits...earned second straight save in 8-2 win over SMC (4-7-02)...earned win with 2.0 innings of relief against Pepperdine (4-14-02), allowing just one hit and striking out four...earned his third save of the season with 3.0 innings of work in 7-5 win over USF (5-11-02), earning five strikeouts and just one walk...earned a save against Portland in 8-5 win (5-18-02), going a perfect 1.1 innings, striking out three...finished the season with four saves, a record of 2-5 and a 6.10 ERA.
2001 Season Notes at LMU...
He finished his freshman season with 28 appearances...he made 12 starts... finished with a 5-7 record, tied for the most wins on the staff...pitched 75.2 innings and finished with a 6.07 ERA...was second on the team with 62 strikeouts and had 37 walks...one of his best games was the final game of the season against Gonzaga (5/13/01)...he went eight innings, allowed three runs on 10 hits, striking out a career high nine Bulldogs...against Saint Mary's (4/8/01) he struckout eight and allowed two earned runs and three hits in 6.2 innings...in a six-inning performance against San Francisco (3/24/02) he allowed just one earned run on nine hits...he earned his only save of the season with 1.1 innings against Gonzaga (3/10/01).
Graduated from Scripps Ranch High School in 2000 with a 3.4 grade point average...a two-sport star, earning letters in baseball and water polo...lettered as a junior and senior for the baseball team...was team captain as a senior...was voted most valuable pitcher in his final two seasons...was nominated to the All-Central League first-team last season...played outfield and first base in addition to pitching for coach Roger Engle...lettered all four years in water polo...was voted All-Western League as a sophomore, junior and senior...was an honorable mention All-American his final two seasons in the pool...also earned all-state and All-CIF first-team honors.
Joshua Christopher Muecke (Mick) was born Jan. 9, 1982 in San Diego, CA...he is the son of Jackson and Christine Muecke...has three sisters, Alexis, Meredith and Lauren...father played football and baseball at the University of San Diego...winning CIF Championship in water polo was most memorable high school athletic achievement...was recruited by Cal State Fullerton, San Diego State, UC Riverside, San Diego and UC Davis...a business major.
