Taylor Shoop is in his first season with LMU baseball after transferring from Davidson College... a graduate student now at LMU, he will use his final season of eligibility with the Lions... a big, power-hitting first baseman who has Division I experience... coaches feel he will bring leadership to the team and provide some power from the left side...
At Davidson College... 2006... named to the Preseason All-Southern Conference first-team at designated hitter... started the first four games at first base before breaking a finger on his throwing hand by fouling a pitch off it against Army, ending his season and Davidson career... completed that turn at bat by drawing a walk... belted home runs in each of the first two games of the season against Georgetown... went on to receive a medical redshirt for the season... 2005... was an All-Southern Conference selection at designated hitter... was also named to the all-state squad... hit .347 with five home runs and 14 RBI in first 11 starts... hit three home runs at Georgia Southern, becoming just the fourth Wildcat to hit three or more long balls in one game... in summer play with the Staunton Braves (Valley League), hit .289 with two home runs and 12 RBI en route to Staunton Brave of the Year honor... 2004... led team in doubles, was second in home runs, and third in RBI... hit .409 in conference play with a .773 slugging percentage... hit .357 with two outs... 2003... hit .360 over first eight games of his career... first career hit came at Georgia Southern...
High School... a 2002 graduate of Loyola High School in Los Angeles... was a three-year letterwinner for Coach Aaron Marlerelli... named Offensive Player of the Year as a freshman and Pitcher of the Year as a sophomore... was selected to the 2002 Dodger Elite Team... went 5-0 with 1.95 ERA as a senior... that same season, hit .385 with nine doubles, seven home runs, and 27 RBI... named first-team All-Mission League and second-team All-CIF... also a LA Times All-City Central selection... also played football for the Cubs...
Personal... Taylor Eastland Shoop was born October 7, 1983, in Santa Monica, Calif... now calls Malibu, Calif. home... son of Lee and Paul Shoop... is one of six children, with brothers Arron, Tyler, and Logan, and sisters Evan and Madison... Tyler attended Pepperdine, while Evan played volleyball for Duke... completed undergraduate degree in economics at Davidson... now working on his masters in education at LMU.
