LMU Baseball Opening Night 2014

LMU baseball opened the 2014 season with a 2-1 victory over Utah Valley in the first night game played at Page Stadium.

Tommy Cheek is in his second season with LMU baseball after transferring from Palomar Junior College... earned first team All-Pacific Coast League honors in 2012 at Palomar... attended San Diego out of high school...

2013... named WCC Player of the Week on April 1... finished the season with a .305 batting average with 18 RBI, 11 runs scored and nine extra base hits... the .305 average was the second-highest on the team... his .376 slugging percentage was fourth-best on the team... hit .333 with the bases loaded and .563 with runners on third and less than two outs... also managed a .346 average when hitting with the bases empty... hit .500 over the four games played en route to his WCC Player of the Week selection, helping LMU to a 3-1 record that included a victory over then-No. 5 Cal State Fullerton and a pair against then-No. 21 Gonzaga in a WCC weekend series... went 7-for-14 with two runs scored and four RBI over the four games... 4-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI in the opening game against Gonzaga (3/28)... batted .526 with four RBI over a five-game hitting streak from 3/26-4/2... hit .500 with three runs scored and five RBI over a five-game hitting streak from 4/16-4/13... recorded three hits at #26 Oklahoma State on 3/9... 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and a walk against Long Beach State on 3/12... pinch-hit RBI-single to drive in the go-ahead run at #5 Cal State Fullerton on 3/26 (3-2 LMU victory)... 3-for-5 with a run scored against #23 San Diego on 4/6... two-RBI single that proved to be game-winner in victory over #23 San Diego on 4/7... 4-for-6 with two runs scored, his first career triple and two RBI against UC Riverside on 4/9...

2012... earned first team All-Pacific Coast League honors... batted .314 with 10 doubles, a home run and 16 RBI for Palomar's Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Champions... drew 10 walks and five hit-by-pitches... appeared in 36 games and finished second on the club with a .409 slugging percentage... swiped five bases in nine attempts...

2011... hit .125 with a RBI over eight at bats... appeared in four games, starting two...

2010... utilized his redshirt season...

A 2009 graduate of Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego, Calif... played for coach Gary Remiker... helped the Dons win the Western League Championship as well as State Championship by batting .410 with two home runs... finished his high school career as the all-time hits leader at Cathedral Catholic... named first team All-Western League and second team All-CIF... batted .380 with two homers while helping his team win the CIF Championship as a junior... batted .403 and earned first team All-North County and second team All-CIF honors as a sophomore...

Thomas M. Cheek was born July 28, 1991 in Escondido, Calif... son of Norma and Thomas Cheek... father played baseball at San Diego... has two sisters, Tianna and Karinna, and one brother, Joey... elected to transfer to LMU over North Carolina State and UC Riverside because it was the best fit for him... an accounting major.
