Ten former Lions have appeared in professional baseball this summer, including Jason Wheeler for the Minnesota Twins in Major League Baseball.
The Minnesota Twins have selected the contract of former Lion, Jason Wheeler.
Jason Wheeler was added to the Minnesota Twins' 40-man roster on Thursday.
Fifteen current Lions players are competing in summer leagues, while nine former Lions are currently active in professional baseball.

Jason Wheeler is in his third season with LMU baseball... named Northwoods League Pitcher of the Year in the summer of 2010...
2010... sported a 1-2 record and a 10.80 ERA over 13 appearances and one start... tossed 15 innings overall, striking out seven... appeared in three WCC contests, all in relief... pitched 3.1 innings, allowing just one hit and one unearned run to keep a clean ERA... WCC opponents hit just .091 against him... tossed a season-high 2.1 innings against Cal State Bakersfield on April 27... recorded a pair of strikeouts on two occasions... first career victory came against Cal Poly on March 31... held right-handed hitters to a .209 average against... named Northwoods League Pitcher of the Year for his efforts on the hill for the St. Cloud River Bats over the summer... lefty sported a league-best 1.35 ERA with a league-high eight victories and 74 strikeouts en route to the selection... went 8-1 while holding opponents to a .191 average against... garnered a spot on both the mid-season and post-season All-Star teams for the River Bats...
2009... appeared in 16 games for the Lions, starting two... finished the season with a 0-2 record and a 6.30 ERA over 30 innings... struck out 18 batters and walked 17... first career start came on March 10 against UC Riverside... tossed a season-high four innings in that contest... appeared in three conference games, posting a 2.45 ERA in 3.2 innings... punched-out two WCC hitters while walking one... recorded a season-best four strikeouts at UC Santa Barbara on March 7... held opponents to just a .185 average with runners on base and a .200 mark with runners in scoring position and two outs...
A 2008 graduate of Torrance High School in Torrance, Calif... earned two varsity letters for coach Ollie Turner... garnered All-Area, All-League and All-CIF recognition after both varsity seasons... helped guide his team to the Pioneer League Championship in 2007 and 2008... Will Boerger Senior Athlete of the Year winner... Torrance High School Athlete of the Year as a senior... chose LMU because of the school, academics and baseball program... also competed in basketball in high school... named Most Outstanding Player in the Pioneer League as a senior in basketball...
Jason MacDonald Wheeler was born October 27, 1990 in Torrance, Calif... son of Heather and Gerard Wheeler... both parents played basketball in college, father for San Bernardino Valley and mother for the UCLA junior varsity team ... older brother Ryan, who was a LMU teammate in 2009, currently plays in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization... a business major with a math minor.
