Lions Fall to Cal Poly in Non-Conference Baseball Action

San Luis Obispo, Calif. - After winning five straight games, the Loyola Marymount baseball team fell today to Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo, 3-1 in front of 679 fans at Baggett Stadium. The Lions fall to 5-5 on the season, while the Mustangs upped their mark to 7-7.
The Lions missed a pair of golden opportunities, having the bases loaded in both the third and fifth innings, but managed just one run in the two situations. A sacrifice fly by Joe Frazee scored Matt White in the fifth.
Cal Poly scored a pair of runs in the sixth inning to take a 2-1 lead. The Mustangs strung together four singles in the frame, chasing LMU starting pitcher Justin Abreu (1-1). Cal Poly added an insurance run in the eighth inning to secure the victory.
Mustang relief pitcher Garrett Olson earned the victory, moving to 1-0, while Nolan Moser picked up his first save of the season.
Sean Smith did go 2-for-4 to lead the Lions at the plate.
LMU will next be in action when the Lions host San Jose State next weekend. The first of the three-game series will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Page Stadium.
