LMU Wins Fourth Straight By Defeating San Diego 10-4
March 6, 2004
Los Angeles, CA (Mar. 6) - The Loyola Marymount Lions Baseball team earned its second straight WCC victory over San Diego and its fourth straight win overall Saturday at Page Stadium. Will Quaglieri earned his second win of the season by going seven innings and allowing just one earned run in the Lions' 10-4 victory. The game began with Quaglieri (2-1) working out of a second and third one out jam in the first by getting Josh Hansen to pop out and then striking out Joey Prast. In the bottom of the inning, Billy Lockin would hit the first pitch he saw for a single to left and would eventually score when Nate Boman (0-1) balked him home to get the Lions on the board. With two outs in the inning Clint McGill doubled to the wall in right center field driving in Jonathan Higashi and James Cooper to make it 3-0 Lions after one. In the second inning LMU (9-4, 2-0) extended their lead to 4-0 when with one out Lockin walked and scored moments later on a double off the bat of Jonathan Oller. For Oller, it was the first of three doubles on the day. San Diego (6-10, 0-2) answered with two runs in the top of the fourth, but that's as close as Quaglieri would let them get. LMU would get a run back in the bottom of the frame as again with one out Lockin would get on base and score on another double from Oller making the score 5-2.
In the sixth inning Lockin would do the doubling himself as he drove one off the wall in left to score Joe Frazee who had singled. LMU capitalized on some Torero defensive miscues to score four runs in the bottom of the seventh to put the game out of reach. Lockin finished the day by going 3-for-4 with an RBI and four runs scored. Along with Lockin leading the way was Oller who went 3-for-5 with two RBI and Frazee who was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Leading the way offensively for the Toreros were Jo Wickman who went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored and Tom Caple who was 2-for-5 with a run scored. The bullpen of Jackson Creighton and Kevin Jenson combined to record the final six outs of the game to nail down the win for Quaglieri. The Lions will look to sweep the three game set with San Diego on Sunday at 1PM (PST). The game can be heard live on the Lions Audio Network. www.LmuLions.com. - GO LIONS - |
