SPOKANE, Wash. - LMU (15-11, 5-2 WCC) dropped the first game of a doubleheader to Gonzaga (10-14, 6-1 WCC) on Saturday to open a three-game WCC series at Gonzaga's Patterson Baseball Complex. LMU has now lost three straight games after winning its previous six. With the victory, Gonzaga is now 13-2 in home-openers since 2000.

The Bulldogs collected 10 runs on 13 hits as they got to LMU starter Colin Welmon. Welmon allowed a career-high 10 runs (nine earned) on 13 hits over 5.1 innings. The decision moved Welmon to 4-2 on the year.

Jimmy Sinatro guided the Gonzaga offense to the victory, finishing 3-for-5 with a homer, two runs scored and four RBI while falling a triple short of the cycle. Caleb Wood also hit a homer for Gonzaga, going 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI.

LMU managed to plate a pair of runs in the top of the first against sophomore right-hander Taylor Jones, but the right-hander settled in down the stretch, allowing just two base runners from the second through the sixth en route to tossing 7.0 innings and allowing just three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four. Jones improved to 3-2 with the victory.

LMU will look to even the series with Gonzaga tonight in game two of the doubleheader starting at 6 pm.
