Box Score

Senior Phil Caulfied broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the ninth, shooting a two-RBI single into right field as LMU (27-13, 14-4 WCC) posted a 4-2 win over Pepperdine (17-21, 6-9 WCC) to earn a series sweep of the Waves on the road.

The series sweep was the second of the year for LMU after posting a sweep over Pacific.

Caulfield finished the game 2-for-5 while hitting out of the leadoff spot in the order. While Caulfield's single proved to be the game-winner, junior Billy Wilson guided the way offensively for LMU, going 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI. The native of Tolleson, Ariz. got the Lions on the board with a two-out RBI-single in the fifth before contributing a game-tying two-out RBI-triple in the seventh.

Joining Caulfied and Wilson with two hits were Brandon Shearer and Jimmy Hill, as Hill finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a double.

Right-hander Blake Redman got the start and took a no decision after allowing two runs on eight hits and one walk over 6.0 innings. The Camarillo, Calif. native struck out seven hitters while throwing 103 pitches.

Harrison Simon was credited with his second win after tossing 2.0 scoreless innings and limiting the Waves to two hits. After Caulfield put the Lions ahead in the ninth, LMU handed the ball over to Codie Paiva who retired the side in order in the bottom of the ninth, including striking out one hitter, to convert his third save of the year.

Freshman right-hander Wil Jensen was charged with a tough-luck loss after allowing four runs on 10 hits and two walks over 8.1 innings. The decision dropped Jensen to 2-5 on the year. Michael Mahony inherited two runners from Jensen in the ninth, and they both came around to score on the two-RBI single from Caulfield.

LMU, which now sits in a tie with Gonzaga for first place in the WCC, will travel to CSUN on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. first pitch.
