LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The #17 Pepperdine baseball program (32-12, 15-6 WCC) avoided a sweep at the hands of LMU (28-20, 15-9 WCC) by way of a 16-3 rout on Sunday at LMU's Page Stadium. The Waves pounded out the 16 runs on 15 hits, including scoring nine runs in the second inning.

Pepperdine had three players finish with multiple hits, and six players with multiple RBI, including Brandon Caruso with three RBI. Pitcher Aaron Brown scored three times on Sunday, including hitting his team-high ninth home run of the year. The round-tripper was one of three for Pepperdine on Sunday, as Brad Anderson and pinch-hitter Chris Fornaci also went deep. Austin Davidson was the lone Wave to collect three hits, going 3-for-6 with two RBI.

On the mound, Brown went seven shutout innings, allowing five hits and four walks while striking out four to improve to 9-1 on the year. Freshman J.D. Busfield got the start for LMU, lasting just 1.2 innings and allowing all nine runs in the second on nine hits and two walks. The loss was the first of his career.

Senior Tommy Cheek, playing in his final home game of his career, finished 2-for-4 with an RBI-single in the eighth inning to put the Lions on the board and erase a shutout bid. Fellow senior Kevin Garcia also posted a pair of hits in his Page Stadium finale, going 2-for-4 with a run scored.

The Waves sent 13 hitters to the plate in the nine-run second, scoring eight of the nine runs with two out. Pepperdine then added one more run in the fourth, and two runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth to claim a 16-0 lead headed to the bottom of the eighth.

As it has done all season, LMU refused to go without a fight, registering the one run in the bottom of the eighth before scoring two unearned runs in the ninth.

LMU will take next week off from play due to finals, returning to action on May 13 at UC Riverside. First pitch is slated for 6 pm.
