Baseball America recently released its conference predictions for the 2013 season, and the Lions faired well amongst the rankings. The highly reputable source for everything baseball has the Lions tabbed to finish tied for second in the West Coast Conference this year, and is predicting that the Lions will earn a berth into the NCAA Tournament.
San Diego, which is listed as the 25th-best team in the nation according to Baseball America, is picked to win the WCC, while LMU and Gonzaga are predicted to finish just a game behind the Toreros. Should all three teams make the field of 64 as predicted, it would mark the first time that the WCC has sent three to the Tournament since 2006. It would also be LMU's first appearance in a regional since 2000.
In addition to predicting the conference finish, Baseball America also named the top prospects for the 2013-14 drafts and top newcomers to the conference. LMU sophomore right-handers Trevor Megill (#7) and Colin Welmon (#11) each cracked the Top-15 in terms of the draft, while freshman right-hander Michael Silva is considered the 10th-best newcomer.
