Wheeler Named Conference Player of the Week
Ryan Wheeler took home the first Conference Player of the Week award during the 2008 conference season.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Sophomore Ryan Wheeler has been named West Coast Conference Player of the Week, it was announced by the Conference office on Monday. The selection is the first of the season for LMU, and the first career selection for Wheeler.
Wheeler batted .545 (12-for-22) over the five games played last week, playing a crucial role in the Lions' 5-0 week. LMU claimed two victories over USC, earning a come-from-behind 11-10 win on Monday and an 8-2 victory at Dedeaux Field on Tuesday. The Lions went on to a series sweep of conference-foe Portland over the weekend, defeating the Pilots by a count of 7-2 on Saturday, 9-3 on Sunday in game one of a doubleheader, and 12-3 in game two. In addition to the .545 clip, Wheeler amassed seven runs scored, three doubles, a triple, a walk, a hit-by-pitch, six RBI, a stolen base and 17 total bases to the tune of a .773 slugging percentage and a.560 on base percentage. Wheeler hit safely in all five games last week, collecting multiple hits in all but one of the games. He finished 2-for-4 with a triple, a walk and three runs scored on Monday. In Tuesday's game at USC, he batted 4-for-5 with a RBI and a double. On Saturday, he went 3-for-5 with three RBI to open the conference season. In game one on Sunday against Portland, the first baseman batted 2-for-4 with two doubles, a RBI and a run scored. In the final game of the week, Wheeler finished 1-for-4 with a stolen base, a RBI and three runs scored.
Wheeler and the Lions return to action on Tuesday when they host Cal State Fullerton at Page Stadium. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
