April 1, 2013
SAN BRUNO, Calif. - LMU junior Tommy Cheek is the Rawlings West Coast Conference Player of the Week. Cheek hit .500 over four games played last week, helping LMU to a 3-1 week that included a victory over then-No. 5 Cal State Fullerton and a pair against then-No. 21 Gonzaga in a WCC weekend series
The Lion infielder went 7-for-14 with two runs scored and four RBI. He collected the go-ahead RBI in a pinch-hit appearance in the seventh inning to help LMU to a victory over Fullerton before going 4-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI in the opening game against Gonzaga. Cheek hit safely in all four games last week.
The weekly selection is the first of Cheek's career, and the second honor for LMU this year. Sophomore Trevor Megill was named WCC Pitcher of the Week after the first week of the season. Sophomore Colin Welmon also earned WCC Pitcher of the Month for the month of February.
Cheek and LMU will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Cal State Northridge for a game at 3 p.m.
