Lions "Pitch In For Baseball"

April 10, 2012

LOS ANGELES - As part of the West Coast Conference's commitment to REPRESENT, the LMU baseball and softball teams will participate in the conference-wide community service initiative "Pitch In For Baseball" throughout the Apr 13-15 homestand weekend.

The Lions invite players, coaches, and fans to donate gently used baseball and softball equipment, such as gloves, bats, protective gear and other items.

All donated items will then be sent to Pitch In For Baseball, a volunteer-driven organization that distributes all usable items to children all over the world. Its mission is "to help kids and make friends all over the world by sharing the great game of baseball." Pitch In For Baseball also believes the sport of baseball is an avenue to teach kids the values of teamwork and sportsmanship, both tenets of the WCC REPRESENT campaign.

LMU baseball hosts WCC rival San Francisco in a three-game series Friday through Sunday, with game times scheduled for 3 pm, 2pm and 1 pm, respectively. The Lion softball team hosts Pacific Coast Softball Conference foe Sacramento State on Saturday and Sunday. Each day's doubleheader begins at 10 a.m. at Smith Field.

Collection bins will be available each game day at Page Stadium, Smith Field and Pride Park.

This rounds out all 13 conference-sponsored sports hosting a community service initiative on campus or at their respective championship this year.
