A trio of LMU baseball players earned a spot on the 2013 West Coast Conference All-Academic team, it was announced by the conference office on Friday morning. Seniors Zac Fujimoto and Cullen Mahoney were joined by sophomore left-handed pitcher Brandon Horth on the list.
Fujimoto (3.40 GPA - Finance) and Mahoney (3.49 GPA - Communication Studies) recently received their degrees as two of LMU's 10 graduating seniors. Horth currently owns a 3.42 GPA as a marketing major.
In addition to their work in the classroom, all three players have had an impact for the Lions on the field. Fujimoto enters the final weekend of the regular season hitting .286 with 21 runs scored, seven doubles, a triple and 18 RBI. The speedster is also a perfect 14-for-14 in stolen base attempts this year. The native of Aeia, Hawai'i has started 43 of LMU's 48 games thus far.
Mahoney has started all 48 games in the LMU infield, accumulating a .288 batting average with 28 runs scored, eight doubles, four triples, 17 RBI and seven stolen bases. The native of Phoenix, Ariz. has also posted a team-best 17 multi-hit games, including one of just five four-hit games for the Lions in 2013.
Horth has been a dependable option out of the Lion bullpen, pitching to a 1-0 record and a 3.25 ERA over 19 relief appearances and 27.2 innings. The southpaw has also posted a pair of saves while striking out 17 hitters in the 27.2 innings of work.
