Wilson Selected by Cleveland on Final Day of Draft

Senior Billy Wilson was drafted in the 28th round (853rd overall) of the 2018 MLB Draft on Wednesday, selected by the Cleveland Indians.

Wilson joins third baseman Niko Decolati in this year’s draft class, after Decolati was taken with the 186th overall pick in the sixth round by the Colorado Rockies.

Wilson, an honorable mention All-WCC pick, finished his senior campaign hitting .270 with 38 runs scored, 11 doubles, a team-best six triples and five home runs to the tune of 32 RBI. The team-leader in stolen bases, he swiped 15 in 19 attempts. Wilson finished his Lion career as the all-time leader in hit-by-pitches, drawing 51 over his four-year career.

At the conclusion of the 2018 WCC Tournament, Wilson was tabbed an All-Tournament player after batting .364 with a run scored, a double, a homer and four RBI while patrolling centerfield for the Lions. He recorded a .727 slugging percentage in the three games during the WCC Championship bid.
