ARIZONA REPUBLIC: Farris Would Prefer Not to Postpone Pro Career Any Longer

June 14, 2007

The following excerpt by Mark Armijo ran in the June 6, 2007 edition of The Arizona Republic.

After hitting .469 and helping Hamilton High collar a second straight state title in 2004, infielder Eric Farris was taken in the 42nd round of the major league draft by the Atlanta Braves, a pick so low he opted to attend LMU.

His decision to delay fulfilling his dream to sign a professional contract, though gut wrenching at the time, likely will pay financial dividends Thursday in the 2007 draft, a selection process that often rewards higher draft picks with lucrative signing bonuses.

"I think there's a possibility he could go in the first five rounds," LMU coach Frank Cruz said.
