Cohen Signs with Rangers

After completing his senior year in 2018, LMU right-hander Tyler Cohen has signed a free agent contract with the Texas Rangers, it was announced on June 20. Cohen joins Niko Decolati (Colorado Rockies) and Billy Wilson (Cleveland Indians) as players from the 2018 squad who have made their professional debuts this summer.

Cohen, who did not debut this year until WCC play, settled into the Saturday starting role down the stretch. The right-hander amassed a 1.62 ERA while going 2-2 in nine appearances and six starts. Over his 33.1 innings of work, Cohen struck out 28 and also picked up a save. Cohen took the ball in a must-win elimination game against San Francisco at the WCC Championship Tournament, tossing the first 6.0 innings of a 1-0 shutout, allowing just three hits and three walks while striking out four.

Having already started his professional career, Cohen converted a save in his first career appearance on June 24.
