Following the Lions - Former Lions in Professional Baseball

Jason Wheeler is one of 11 former LMU baseball players that have played professionally this year.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Eleven former LMU baseball players have been active in professional baseball this year, including two in the Major Leagues. C.J. Wilson is currently pitching for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, while Ryan Wheeler is playing for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Former Lion Spotlight:
Much like his older brother, Ryan, former Lion Jason Wheeler (2009-11) has impressed this year for his respective organization - the Minnesota Twins. Wheeler, a 6'8" left-handed pitcher, has pitched to a 3.28 ERA and a 13-5 overall record for Class-A Beloit. The native of Torrance, Calif. has notched 98 strikeouts over 23 starts and 131.2 innings of work. Wheeler got off to a wonderful start this year, going 3-0 with a 2.33 ERA in the month of April, but he has been even hotter as of late. The lefty was a perfect 4-0 with a 2.03 ERA in July, and has pitched to a 2.08 mark over two starts in August. A mid-season All-Star, Wheeler also claimed Midwest League Pitcher of the Week honors on May 7 en route to helping his team to the 2012 playoffs.

Former Lion Spotlight:
Former Lion Eric Farris (2005-07) has batted .275 over the course of the year playing for the Triple-A Nashville Sounds of the Milwaukee Brewers organization. Farris, who has excellent speed, has swiped 30 bases in 40 attempts while reaching base at a .316 clip. The Sacramento, Calif. native has scored 51 runs while driving in 26. Farris hit .309 with six stolen bases and three homers in the month of July.
