LOS ANGELES, Calif. - As the 2013 season approaches, we here at LMULions.com would like to (re)introduce you to some of the baseball players who will be gracing Page Stadium's field this year. We have asked all the players a series of questions that range from why they chose LMU to what they would change their name to if they could. This week's question and answer session will feature sophomore Mitchell Esser.

LMULions.com: What did you do this summer?
Mitchell Esser: Played summer baseball in Oregon for the Klamath Falls Gems.

LMU: Why did you choose LMU/What do you like most about LMU?
ME: I thought it was a good fit for me, great coaching staff and similar atmosphere to my hometown of San Diego.

Do you have a nickname? Explain the meaning behind it.
ME: Mitchy Slick. I was called that back in high school and it came around out here at LMU and stuck. I'm pretty smooth.

What is your greatest highlight on the field?
ME: A combination of diving plays I would have to say. I've also played at Petco Park -j home of the Padres...hit a foul homerun there.

After LMU, what do you want to do?
ME: Hopefully live the dream and keep playing, but if not, use my degree to my advantage, get a successful career and start a family.

Do you have any superstitions?
ME: When you're hot, don't change anything.

Do you have any hidden talents?
ME: I can gleek on command.

What is your favorite baseball team?
ME: SAN DIEGO PADRES!

 

 

What is the early favorite for your walk-up song?
ME: "Hey mama" by Kanye West...and maybe something by 2 Chainz.

What is your favorite movie?
ME: For Love of the Game.

What celebrity would play you in a movie about your life?
ME: Bradley Cooper.

You are given $1,000,000 - what do you spend it on?
ME: Pay off some payments and school, help out the family...buy a car and invest/save the rest.

Are you a collector of anything?
ME: Shoes/hats.

f you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
ME: I would love to fly or breathe underwater.

If I take a look inside your refrigerator what would I find?
ME: Hidden Valley Ranch dressing.

What is your motto or advice you live by?
ME: Stay up, and control only what you can.

Name at least one television show that you watch every week.
ME: How I Met Your Mother, Two and a Half Men, Sports Center.

What is your most prized possession?
ME: Pete Rose signed baseball, Tony Gwynn last game signed photograph.

Any fears or phobias?
ME: I hate spiders.

Who is your biggest influence in life?
ME: Parents for sure.

Name one thing not many people know about you.
ME: I like to cook.

If you could witness any event past, present or future, what would it be?
ME: Padres winning the World Series or the Dodgers losing one, and the Chargers winning the Super Bowl.

Are you a morning or night person?
ME: Both.

If you could be any animal, what would you be?
ME: A lion - king of the jungle.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?
ME: San Diego.

If you could change your name, what would it be?
ME: I love my name, I don't think I would change it if I could.

If someone was to give you one gift, what would you want to receive?
ME: A hat, or shoes.

What was your favorite childhood television program?
ME: Saved by the Bell.
