Sept. 24, 2012
LOS ANGELES - The entire LMU baseball team took it upon itself to make the community surrounding LMU a bit cleaner on Saturday, heading to Dockweiler Beach with fellow student-athletes to participate in a beach cleanup.
LMU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee President, and Lion catcher, Colton Plaia helped to organize the event that saw upwards of 100 student-athletes combing the sand at Dockweiler. The LMU student-athletes and SAAC have adopted Dockweiler Beach for the last three years and have committed to keeping the area clean by volunteering themselves at various beach cleanups that will occur throughout the year.
The purpose of SAAC is to "provide insight on the student-athlete experience. The SAAC also offers input on the rules, regulations, and policies that affect the student-athletes' lives on NCAA member institution campuses." The over all mission is to "enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete welfare, and fostering a positive image."
