The 2013 LMU baseball team began fall practice on Monday.
Sept. 24, 2012
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The 2013 LMU baseball team officially started practice on Monday, energetically taking to Page Stadium with the goals of its first WCC Championship since 2000 and much more. The practice opened with a speech from fifth-year head coach Jason Gill before going into discussions and drills.
LMU returns 21 players from a team that finished third in the West Coast Conference at 14-10. One major highlight of this year's team is expected to be pitching, as LMU returns 40 of its 54 starts from last year, including 15 apiece from sophomore right-handers Colin Welmon and Trevor Megill who served as the Friday and Saturday starters as freshmen a year ago. Offensively, LMU returns senior Colton Plaia behind the plate, who recently completed a summer playing for Coach Gill and Team USA after batting .326 with six homers and 38 RBI a year ago. Joining the 21 returners, LMU also added 11 newcomers to its roster. Among the 11 are six junior college transfers and five freshmen.
The 2013 baseball season is scheduled to begin on February 15 when LMU hosts Utah in a three-game series at Page Stadium.
