Review of LMU Men's Basketball 2006-07 Season through photos

Briefly:
Corey Counts joined the LMU Men's Basketball Program as a walk-on in the 2005-06 season. In his second season he earned All-WCC Academic honors after playing in 25 games. He coontinued to rise in the program, becoming the starting point guard in 2007-08, starting 22 games with a 6.1 ppg average. This is his fourth and final year of college basketball at LMU and he earned a scholarship from Head Coach Bill Bayno.

2007-08 at LMU:
He had the best season of basketball in his career - college or high school. He started 22 games and played in all 31 contests for the Lions, becoming the team's starting point guard. He shattered his career marks in all categories, averaging 26.7 minutes, 6.1 points, 1.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 0.52 steals per game. He was the team leader in three-point percentage, hitting 38.9 percent per game. He finished the year ranked 10th in the WCC in assists and eighth in three-point percentage. He first showed flashes of his break-out season with 10 points, six assists and just one turnover in a win over Presbyterian (11-17-07). He then earned his first start of the season against Boise State (12-8-07) and he made the most of it. He finished the game with nine points, five assists and three rebounds, hitting 3-for-6 from the three-point line. His biggest three came in the final seconds of the game, hitting a bank shot as the shot clock expired to lift the Lions to the win over the eventual WAC winners. Then came conference player, where opened WCC play against the regular season champs, Gonzaga (1-12-08) with his best game ever. He scored 21 points with seven assists, just two turnovers and a steal to help the Lions have a chance in the final minutes. He went 7-for-8 from the field, 5-for-6 from long range in 33 minutes. He followed that with a 14 points, four assist performance in the win over Portland (1-14-08). In the win over USF (2-4-08), he went for 11 points, eight assists and just two turnovers, hitting 9-for-10 from the free throw line.

2006-07 at LMU:
After a broken jaw left him out of all but three games in 2005-06, Counts finished his second season and first full season of play appearing in 25 games. He earned his first collegiate start and averaged 12.4 minutes per game as his playing time increased throughout the season. He finished hitting 35.3 percent from the three-point line (12-for-34) and 42.9 percent from the field. He averaged 2.6 points and 1.6 assists per game. He played three minutes in win over Oral Roberts (11-10-06) to start the season and then hit his first career three-pointer against MSU (11-13-06) while playing eight minutes. Counts played his best game of his career with 18 minutes off the bench, scoring five points with two assists and no turnovers in the win over Alaska (11-22-06). Played barely a minute against Pacific (11-24-06) but came up with steal in double overtime to secure win. He had two rebounds and a steal in six minutes against Long Beach State (12/22/06). He had a career high 8 points against Akron (12/29/06), going 3-for-3 from the field, two from three-point range. Continues to gain playing time as he now averages 11.0 minutes a contest. Played 33 minutes in first start against USF (1-13-07), scoring three points with four assists, three rebounds and a steal. Played 22 minutes with five assists and two points against USD (1-15-07). He went for five points and two assists in win over Gonzaga (2-5-07), hitting a huge second half three-pointer to tie the game. Had another big bucket with an assist in 11 minutes against USD (2-10-07). Scored five points with two assists and two rebounds against Pepperdine (2-17-07). Scored five points with three assists in win over Santa Clara (2-24-07). Did not play against Saint Mary's (2-26-07) due to attending funeral for best friend.

2005-06 at LMU:
He made first appearance as a Lion against UC Santa Barbara (12-3-05), playing two minutes in the Lions win. After turning heads in practice throughout the start of the season, he looked to be gaining more playing time. He played nine minutes with two points, assist and steal against Northern Colorado (12-17-05) before leaving with split chin and lip after he was intentionally fouled. Following the game it was found that he had suffered a broken jaw and went on to miss the next six weeks of action.
