BRIEFLY... Drew Viney played one season at Oregon before deciding to transfer to LMU in the 2008-09 season. He finished his three-year tenure at LMU ranked 15th all-time in scoring and was just the 13th player in school history to score more than 1,000 points with more than 500 rebounds.

IN 2011-12 RS SENIOR... Three-time All-WCC selection Drew Viney entered 2011-12 needing just a single point to become the 31st player in LMU history to reach 1,000 career points. After having to miss the first six games due to a stress fracture in his foot, it took exactly 12 seconds in his first game back against Columbia to hit the century mark. Viney knocked down a 12-foot jumper to become the 31st player in school history to reach a 1,000 points. Then with five rebounds against San Diego (Feb. 23), he became the 13th player in program history with 1,000 career points and 500 career rebounds. He had his 11th career double-double in the win over Pepperdine, which ranks tied for 12th at LMU. He finished his final season averaging 15.2 points, 5.5 rebounds with 21 blocks, 29 steals and 38 assists in 24 games. He was second on the team with 42 three-pointers... has scored double figures in 18 of his 24 games, including season high 29 points with eigh rebounds against Vanguard (12/27/11)... had 20 points and eight rebounds in the win at San Diego (1/5/12), hitting 7-for-12 from the field and 4-of-6 from three... in the win at BYU (1/19/12), Viney had 21 points and six rebounds, hitting 7-for-11 from the field... in the comeback win over San Francisco (2/4/12), he had 20 points and nine rebounds, hitting 4-of-5 from three and finishing 6-for-10 from the field, adding five assists in the process... had 24 points on 8-for-14 shooting at Gonzaga (2/11/12), and followed that with 17 points, four rebounds and three steals in the win at No. 16 Saint Mary's (2/15/12), hitting 7-for-12 from the field... finished home career with 14 points and nine rebounds in win over Santa Clara (2/25/12)...

Finished the season leading the Lions with 17.2 points per game, highest average by a Lion since Wyking Jones in 1993-94... added 6.6 rebounds, 1.78 assists, 0.96 blocks and 0.81 steals... in the WCC rankings, he finished second in scoring, fifth in rebounds, 10th in field goal percentage (47.9%), ninth in three-point field goal percentage (37.6%), 13th in three-pointers made (1.4), sixth in blocked shots, and third in minutes played (33.7)... picked up where he left off the year before, scoring 27 points with six rebounds against Morgan State (11/12/10), going 10-for-12 from free throw line and 8-for-13 from the field... had fifth career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds at Bradley (11/17/10)... was one of three Lions with a double-double in the win over LBSU (11/27/10), going for the sixth of his career with 18 points and 12 rebounds, adding three blocks... did not play against UCSB or CP due to deep calf bruise... returned against Sacramento State (12/7/10), and scored 15 points with six rebounds off the bench in 30 minutes... went for 15 and nine against Florida State (12/18/10)... had 16 points and seven rebounds at South Dakota (12/22/10)... had seventh double-double of career and third of the season with 22 points and 10 rebounds in win over UC Irvine (12/30/10). PRIOR TO LMU... AT OREGON... After missing most of the season due to a stress fracture in his foot, he played in 11 of the last 12 games. Viney averaged 1.5 points per game on the season. Scored season-best five points in March 6 win at home against Arizona State. He also had five points with four rebounds in season-opener against Pepperdine. He contributed four points in Feb. 9 win at California... HIGH SCHOOL... As a senior, averaged 31 points and 12 rebounds per game for Villa Park High School. Averaged 18 points and 12 rebounds per game as a junior. Once scored 44 points in a game as a senior. Three-time all-state performer. A four-star recruit, was ranked as the 20th-best small forward in the country by Scout.com, and is listed in that service's top 100 recruits overall. "A good athlete, Viney has a very nice frame and a terrific stroke with good range. He moves well, but is still not completely grown into his body. Looks like he may still be growing. Among the top wing prospects in the west for 2007," Scout.com said. Also played volleyball for Villa Park and was a two-time all-league player.
PERSONAL... James Andrew David Viney was born on September 17, 1988, in Whittier, Calif. Parents are Jamie and Mona Viney. He has two brothers and two sisters, with a sister and a brother going on to play college athletics. Father also played college athletics at Wright State. High School (Coach): Villa Park (Kevin Reynolds). Major is Theater Arts.
