Briefly from Coach:
Andy Osborn will enter his second season of collegiate basketball at LMU... Andy received a lot of playing time as a freshman and showed signs of being a quality West Coast Conference performer. Like many young players, his season was somewhat inconsistent, but he has a chance to be a good player in the league... his best is yet to come and his true potential will only be realized when he gets stronger, improves his conditioning and his body matures... probably should have redshirted as a freshman but the program didn?t have that luxury during rebuilding efforts... a versatile big man that can play the 4 and 5, and can become a good scorer both inside and on the perimeter... need to get his three-point shooting back where it was at the beginning of the season at around 40 percent or better and then have him learn how to shot-fake and put the ball on the court when defenders run at him... getting more physical and playing more aggressively is a goal... has gained about 12 pounds, with more muscle, which should help him compete inside the paint much better.
2001-2002 at LMU:
He finished his first year at LMU with one of the program?s best freshman seasons... he was second on the squad with 10.1 points per game and second on the team with 5.2 rebounds per game... in his first week of collegiate basketball he earned West Coast Conference Player of the Week honors, the quickest freshman to earn the honor in conference history... in that week, he earned his first start and played 20 minutes, leading the team with 14 points, five rebounds, hitting 5-of-7 from the field against Samford (11-13-01)... in his second game of collegiate basketball, he became the third freshman at LMU with a double-double, earning 15 points, 12 rebounds in 30 minutes against Mississippi Valley State (11-14-01)... in home-opener against Idaho State (11-17-01) he earned third start, playing 17 minutes with nine points, four boards and a block... scored 10 points and played only one minute in first half due to fouls against Cal State Fullerton (11-24-01)... earned fifth start of season against UC Irvine (11-28-01) and played a game-high 34 minutes to lead the team with 18 points, 10 boards for second double-double of the season... in win over UCSB (12-5-01), he earned seventh start with team-high 33 minutes, scoring nine points and seven rebounds... started eighth game and played 33 minutes against Sacramento State (12-8-01), scoring a career-high 19 points (8-for-14)... in win over Long Beach State (12-18-01), he started 10th game, played 18 minutes and finished with 11 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals... played a team-high 30 minutes in start against Montana (12-30-01), scoring 12 points with seven rebounds... came off the bench for the first time against USF (1-11-02), playing 24 minutes and scored a game-high 17 points... added game-high seven rebounds with a block and two steals... in win over Saint Mary?s (1-12-02) earned 15th start of season... played 32 minutes and finished with eight points... had five boards and was 6-of-6 from free throw line... in victory over Portland (1-18-02), he earned 16th start and played 26 minutes... earned third double-double of season with 12 points and 11 rebounds... set all-time freshmen double-double record... against Santa Clara (1-26-02) played 22 minutes off the bench... had career-high three blocks with two points and five rebounds... after fouling out in first meeting against Pepperdine (1-30-02), he responded in the rematch with 26 minutes, scoring 13 points with six rebounds... was 5-for-10 from the field, 3-for-4 from three-point line against the Waves (2-2-02)... led the team with 17 points in 22nd start of the season against USF (2-9-02)... added seven rebounds and two blocks... in final home stand of the season he had 18 points and eight rebounds in 30 minutes against Santa Clara (2-22-02) and had 14 points (3-for-5 from 3-point line) against San Diego (2-23-02)...in conference tournament against Gonzaga he started his 26th game and had seven points, six rebounds, four assists and two blocks.
Graduated from Longmont High School in June 2001... a three-year letterwinner in basketball... was the State of Colorado Player of the Year runner-up in his final season... finished his senior season averaging 24 points (second in the state) and led the state with 551 points... also averaged 10 rebounds (third in the state), four blocks, shot 64 percent from the field, 45 percent from the three-point line and 80 percent from the free throw line... was a two-time All-State selection (first team as a senior and honorable mention as a junior), All-League Player of the Year (Northern Conference), two-time All-Area and All-County selection... led Longmont to the Colorado 5A quarterfinals and a 22-1 final record... in junior season, he averaged 16 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocks... final game of high school he scored 39 points and added nine rebounds and four blocks... in 5A All-Star game (Colorado?s top division), he led all scorers with 24 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks.
