MBB | A Global Reach

Showing its reach across the globe, LMU continued its tour while sending back some well wishes as they spent their final day in Madrid before flying to Barcelona on Sunday morning. The Lions had a full pre game practice, followed by the coaches participating in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. They then took on the Angola National Team, who is participating in the upcoming FIBA World Championships in Spain.

Playing together for the first time, the Lions overcame two double-digit deficits, different rules within the international game, differences in how officials call games, a gym with no air conditioning, foul trouble and playing 5,000 miles from home to earn a 90-85 victory in overtime.

BRIEFLY... Petr Herman enters his first season of college basketball at LMU in 2014-15, coming to LMU from Canarias Basketball Academy in Spain... he is one of eight international players on the Lions' roster, coming from Czech Republic... From Coach Dunlap: "Petr is a powerful and quick forward and he is recognized as a high-major player. The Canarias Basketball Academy under Orellana's direction is known as one of the top skill development schools in Europe. He has done a great job in pushing Petr to maximize his skills."

BEFORE LMU... Herman has played for the Czech Republic national program since 2010 and has been a part of the Canarias Basketball Academy in Spain for the last three years... Herman most recent international experience comes from the U18 European Championships (Division B) in the summer of 2013, playing eight games (16.9 mpg), while averaging 9.4 points and 5.0 rebounds per contest. He finished the tournament hitting 43.8 percent from three and 46 percent from the field overall. He ranked 19th in the tournament field in blocks (0.6 bpg) and was ninth in three point percentage... His best game came with 16 points and six rebounds against Israel. Also had 13 points and 10 rebounds in double-double performance against Estonia... He also played in the U18 European Championships (Division A) in 2011-12, averaging 9.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.2 steals in nine games. His first international experience came in the in U18 European Challenge in 2010-11 where he played seven games (12.7 mpg), while averaging 4.5 points, 1.3 blocks, 3.6 rebounds and 0.6 steals per game... While playing for Canarias Basketball Academy, he averaged eight points and 4.8 rebounds per contest during league play in 2011-12. He also played in Nike International Junior Tournament in February of 2012 and the National Prep School Invitational in 2014 at Rhode Island College.
