BRIEFLY...Brad Sweezy is in his fourth season at LMU and will be a redshirt junior after earning a medical hardship in 2006-07 when a knee injury sidelined him for all but one game. He is a graduate of Ocean View High School in Huntington Beach and is another of the six Southern California products on the roster. Known for energy and effort, he went on to have the best season of his career, setting career-highs in every stat category in 2008-09, including 119 rebounds, third on the Lions squad.
AT LMU... 2009-10... has played in nine games, earning three rebounds and an assist against North Dakota...played nine minutes against UCSB... played 13 minutes against Portland... minutes continue to rise with 16 against Gonzaga, grabbing a steal... had three rebounds in eight minutes at USF... 2008-09... finished the year averaging 2.8 points (87), 3.8 rebounds (119) and 0.65 assists (45) while playing every game... became one of the top players off the short bench and was asked to guard players much larger than him for the position he was asked to play due to the Lions' lack of depth... was asked to guard All-American against Notre Dame... had six points, five boards and a steal... had a strong first half off the bench for the Lions against Wagner, going for eight points and six rebounds, all in that first frame. Foul trouble hindered efforts in the second half as he fouled out with more than three minutes to play... played career-best 33 minutes off the bench against UC Riverside... had four points, five rebounds, a block and a steal... had six more rebounds against UCLA and has averaged just under six boards the last three games... equalled a career-high with seven rebounds in 32 minutes against Mercer... added four points... went for eight points and eight rebounds in 27 minutes at Pepperdine... continues record pace on the boards with five more against USD... in 23 minutes against Santa Clara at home, he went for six points and seven rebounds... led Lions with eight rebounds at Gonzaga... hit a pair of field goals and had an assists and steal in win over USF... finished with seven points in 22 minutes against SMC... 2007-08... In his first full season of action at LMU, Sweezy played in 29 of the 31 games and earned nine starts during conference play. He finished the season averaging 1.2 points and 1.9 rebounds in 10.6 minutes per contest. He set a career-best with 10 points against Mississippi State (12-19-07), adding five rebounds against the NCAA-bound Bulldogs. The rebound total was a career-best until he had seven against Pepperdine (2-23-08). He played a career-high 29 minutes in the win over USF (2-4-08), going for five points, four rebounds with a steal while holding the WCC scoring leader to eight points under his average... 2006-07... Played one game on the season, against Mississippi State (11-13-06) with a rebound in 3 minutes. However, he missed the remainder of the season after knee surgery. He earned a medical redshirt.
HIGH SCHOOL...Sweezy is a 2006 graduate of Ocean View High School in Huntington Beach, Calif. He finished his career in grand style, earning first-team All-CIF Southern Section honors at the Division-IIIAA level. It was his second straight All-CIF selection, earning it as a junior as well. He led Ocean View to a 10-2 mark in league to be Co-Golden West League Champions as a senior. They finished 17-10 overall and lost in the quarterfinals to eventual champion Artesia, 69-44. Sweezy finished the season averaging a double-double, scoring 14.9 points and 10.3 rebounds per contest. He also added 28 assists, 14 steals and seven blocks on the year. In his junior campaign, the first-team all-league performer led OVHS to a 15-8 overall mark, 9-3 in the Golden West league, as Sweezy earned All-CIF Division III-AA and All-Golden West League honors. He averaged 15 points and eight rebounds per game. Sweezy finished his junior season with 16 games in double figures, including a career-high 26 in the final game of the season against Artesia High School. His previous high was 19 points as he was the leading scorer in a 57-43 win over Costa Mesa. As a sophomore Sweezy helped the team to a perfect 11-0 record in league play and a 21-6 overall in 2003-04.
PERSONAL... Bradley Michael Sweezy was born in Fountain Valley, Calif., on April 19, 1987. He is the son of Jennifer Thompson and Michael Sweezy. He has one sister and is a Sociology major.
