West Long Brach, NJ (Dec. 31) - Loyola Marymount University men's basketball finish non-conference play with a 81-53 setback to Monmouth in West Long Branch, NJ Sunday afternoon. The Lions finished a rough road trip as they will enter West Coast Conference play at 8-8 overall. Monmouth improves to 5-8.

The Lions continue to struggle from the front court since the loss of Matthew Knight and Brandon Worthy due to injuries. The Lions finished the game with just nine points from their front court. Senior Adoyah Miller led the Lions with 14 points and junior Damian Martin had a season-high 12 points. Freshman Max Craig scored eight of the Lions nine points from down low.

Jhamar Youngblood had 20 to lead all scorers.

After the Lions cut the lead two a pair at 33-31 just minutes into the second half, Monmouth buried the Lions with 24-0 run over a eight-minute span to go up 22, 53-31. LMU could not answer. The Lions ended a nine-minute drought by a jumper from freshman Max Craig.

During the run, the Lions turned the ball over eight times in nine minutes and went just 2-for-9 from the field while Monmouth went 13-for-23. The Lions finished the game shooting just 34.0 percent while Monmouth went for 57 percent, outscoring the Lions 24-14 on turnovers and 40 to 14 in the paint.

Things won't get much easier as the Lions open WCC play at Gonzaga at 1 p.m. on January 6 in Spokane.
