With the calendar changing over to February, Loyola Marymount men’s basketball looks to end the final month of the regular season on a positive stretch. LMU totaled one win in both December and January, but a February run could give the Lions the momentum they need heading into the WCC Tournament in Las Vegas during the opening weekend of March.

LMU (6-15, 1-9 WCC) opens the month of February against BYU (18-5, 7-3 WCC), a team the Lions outscored in the second half just two weeks ago in Provo. The game will tip at 8 p.m. on Spectrum Sportsnet in Los Angeles.

In the first meeting, BYU shot 59.5 percent from the field and 50 percent from three against LMU, the second-highest mark the Lions have allowed an opponent to shoot this season. Only Saint Mary’s 62 percent fg clip and 62.5 percent mark from three were higher.

LMU’s struggles in the first game against the Cougars came from the free throw line where the Lions hit a season-low 52.6 percent from the charity stripe. The Crimson and Navy are hoping that those woes are behind them, after hitting 15-of-17 from the line against San Diego their last time out.

Steven Haney, Jr. is now just eight made threes away from passing LMU legends Anthony Ireland and Bo Kimble and becoming the third member of the program’s 200 made three-point field goal club. Haney is averaging 2.85 threes per game this season, tying him for 59th in Division I.

The game will tip at 8 p.m. on Spectrum Sportsnet. As a part of Loyola Marymount athletics’ Go Green Game, the first 300 fans will receive a free reusable bag courtesy of Green LMU.
