The two teams rang in the new year together, playing at Gersten Pavilion on Feb. 4 of this year. SCU won that game, 65-49. Despite shooting a season-low 43 field goal attempts in that game, The Lions were still able knock down their shots at a rate of 44 percent and the 65 points allowed still stands as LMU’s third best defensive output this season and best in WCC play.

Mattias Markusson had a strong performance in Saturday’s loss to San Francisco. The sophomore center posted career highs in both points and rebounds on his way to his fifth double-double of the season, tying him with Eli Scott for the team-high. Markusson’s 17 point and 14 rebound night was one rebound shy of making him LMU’s first 15-15 player since 2013.

Eight of Markusson’s rebounds came on the offensive end of the court. It was his second-time grabbing eight offensive rebounds over a two-week span, after corralling eight in the win against Pepperdine on Feb. 10 as well. As a team, the Lions still lead the conference and rank 23rd in Division I with 12.74 offensive rebounds per game.

This is the final true road game of the season, with LMU returning to Gersten Pavilion on Saturday to honor Steve Haney, Jr. in his final home game. The Lions host Pacific at 1 p.m. in the WCC Game of the Week on Spectrum Sportsnet in Los Angeles.
