WCC Release

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- Steven Haney, Jr. and Mattias Markusson have been named to the West Coast Conference Men's Basketball All-Academic team, the league announced Wednesday. Erik Johansson joins his teammates as a WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention Selection.

Haney makes this third appearance on the conference's academic team, receiving recognition as a sophomore and junior as well. Haney is set to earn his Master's degree in Educational Studies this May, after already receiving his bachelor's from LMU. The senior leads the WCC with 2.8 threes made per game and his 66 from long range leads LMU. Within the conference, Haney ranks 14th in scoring (12.9 ppg), 7th in three-point percentage (41.3 percent), and ranks 15th in free throw percentage (77.3 percent).

Mattias Markusson makes his first appearance on the team in his first year of eligibility. The sophomore has played in all 27 games this year, making 26 starts, and is tied for the team lead with five double-doubles. Within the WCC, Markusson ranks second in field goal percentage (62.2 percent), and ninth in rebounding at 6.2 per game, eighth in blocked shots (1.0 bpg).

Also earning recognition as a sophomore is Erik Johansson. After starting 11 games and playing in 26, Johansson is making his first appearance on the Academic Honorable Mention Team. Johansson is shooting 32.7 percent from three and has knocked down 17 triples on the season, third-most on the team.

LMU's three honorees are tied for the program record with the three selected in 2012-13. That season, Ashley Hamilton made the All-Academic team, with Taylor Walker and Ayodeji Egbeyemi earning Honorable Mention recognition.

At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to his team.
