The Lions jumped Portland last weekend in the WCC standings to claim sole possession of eighth in the conference. LMU and UP knew they would play in the 8 vs. 9 game in the opening round, but with LMU's late surge the Lions will be the higher seed. In two previous meetings this year, the Pilots edged the Lions by a total of nine points, including a two-point loss the last time out, Feb. 3 in Portland.

"Both games have been pretty doggone close," said Head Coach Mike Dunlap. "It was a one possession game at their place. We ended the season with six turnovers in our final game. That's phenomenal. We need to make smart decisions and be patient."

LMU has matched up against Portland in the WCC Tournament more than any other opponent. The Lions are 6-2 against UP in the conference tournament, and winners of three straight (2011, 2013, 2014), but this is the first time that a Mike Dunlap led team will see the Pilots after the regular season.

As a team, the Lions finished the regular season leading the WCC in three per game statistical categories: offensive rebounds, turnovers forced, and steals. Individually, Eli Scott led the conference in offensive rebounds, Jeffery McClendon led the way in steals, and Steven Haney, Jr. was the top three point shooter with 2.5 makes per game.
