LOS ANGELES - LMU men's basketball will play in the 2013 U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam held over Thanksgiving at the University of the Virgin Islands Nov. 22-25, 2013. This will be the 13th year for the tournament and fans can join the Lions this Thanksgiving in Paradise.
The eight-team field will feature the Lions, La Salle, Maryland, Marist, Morgan State, Northern Iowa, Providence and Vanderbilt. Games will be played from Nov. 22-25. New Mexico won last year's title, defeating UConn 66-60.
"This will be a tremendous opportunity for our team to not only play some really good teams but will also get our student-athletes a chance to experience more of the world," said Head Coach Max Good, who will enter his sixth season in 2013-14. He has led the Lions to the WCC tournament quarterfinals in each of the last four seasons, joining Gonzaga and Saint Mary's as the only teams to do so.
The Lions will play three games while at the Paradise Jam. The trip to the U.S. Virgin Islands will continue a run of non-conference tournaments for the Lions. They have played in a non-conference tournament every year since 2001. Prior to 2001, the Lions had only played in one since 1991.
Since 2001, the Lions have played in the Doubletree Los Angeles Westisde Centenial Classic (2011), the Naismith Memorial Basketball Tip-off (2010), The Grizzly Classic hosted by Montana (2009), the World Vision Classic hosted by Iowa State (2008), the BTI Invitational hosted by New Mexico (2007), the Great Alaska Shootout (2012, 2006 and 2002), the Outrigger Hotels Rainbow Classic (2005), the Gosner Foods Classic hosted by Utah State (2004), the Mohegan Sun Classic hosted by Central Connecticut State (2003), the Big R Classic hosted by Montana State (2002) and the Guardian's Classic at the University of Alabama (2001). The Lions won the Mohegan Sun Classic in 2003.
The bracket and match-ups for the Paradise Jam will be announced at a later date, but fans can join the Lions on the trip through ParadiseJam.com. Packages include four-star hotel accommodations for four, five and 10 nights at Frenchman's Reef & Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort, tournament passes to all games, transportation to and from games and airport and more.
