LOS ANGELES -- Senior Anthony Ireland of the LMU men's basketball team continues to add to his list of honors for his stellar four-year career, earning a roster spot at the 2014 Reese's Division I College All-Star Game, as announced by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Tuesday morning.
The NABC All-Star game will be played as part of the Final Four Friday at the 2014 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship. The contest will take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, beginning at 1:30 pm (PDT).
This marks the third postseason honor for Ireland as the LMU point guard's accolades earned him his third straight first-team All-WCC honor, just the third Lion in school history to do so. He was also named Second-Team NABC All-District.
Ireland finishes his career playing in every one of the 132 games LMU played in the last four years, while also starting 125, including the last 89 straight games. He finishes with 2,169 points, 557 assists, 517 rebounds and 200 steals, ranking third, third, 23rd and 2nd all-time at LMU. No other Lion has those combined numbers.
Ireland's numbers weren't just among the best at LMU, they ranked among the best in college basketball in 2013-14. Entering the final weekend of the college basketball season, Ireland ranks fourth all-time in career points among all active NCAA players. Among NCAA Division I players, he ranks 20th in assists, 26 in steals, first among players with at least 1,500 points and 350 assists, sixth in field goals made, third in field goals attempted, 12th in free throws made and 21st in free throws attempted.
The NABC All-Star rosters are composed of senior student-athletes in NCAA Division I. The teams consist of some of the nation's top-20 seniors from schools across the nation, including Sam Dower, Jr., of Gonzaga. Ireland and Dower will be teammates, playing on the 10-member Reese's West All-Star Team under Stanford coach Johnny Dawkins.
Both the West and East teams will practice Wednesday and Thursday, before Friday's game at 1:30 pm (PDT)/4:30 pm (EDT). The Reese's Division I College All-Star Game will be telecast on tape delay on Saturday, April 5 at 9 am (PDT)/12 pm (EDT) on CBS.
