LMU Saddened by the Loss of Men's Basketball Commit, Ryse Williams
Men's Basketball Program Sends Condolences to Williams Family
LOS ANGELES - The Loyola Marymount University Athletics family is saddened to learn the news of the short and sudden illness that resulted in the loss of incoming LMU men's basketball player Ryse Williams, class of 2021.
"I send my heartfelt sympathy on behalf of our program and my staff to the family of Ryse," said Head Coach Mike Dunlap. "As good a basketball player as he was, it was his personality and character that stood above all."
A competitor on the court, Williams helped lead Southern California's Redondo Union to league titles in each of his four high school seasons. His play resulted in numerous individual awards, including being named an All-CIF selection and earning a nomination to the 2017 McDonald's All-American Game.
"You never want to hear of a young person who is unable to fully make his mark on the world," said Athletic Director Dr. William Husak. "On behalf of the Athletics Department and Loyola Marymount University, we send our condolences and support to the Williams family and the men's basketball community."
