BARCELONA, Spain -The smile says it all. Fifth-year Godwin Okonji loves his football. And take him to Europe, put him in a soccer stadium, and his face will light-up about as much as when he takes the court for the LMU men's basketball team. The Nigerian talked to LMU Sports Network while visiting one of the most famous soccer venues in the world.
Following a grueling practice, the Lions visited the home of FC Barcelona, Camp Nau, on Tuesday afternoon. It is the second tour of the stadium for Okonji, who grew up playing soccer first. He then found basketball at the age of 17, making his way to NCAA Division I basketball with the Lions.
Okonji, who draws a crowd everywhere he goes, took a minute to talk to the LMU Sports Network about soccer, his favorite team, and making the most of his fifth season after the car accident forced a redshirt a year ago.
The Lions will play their final game in Spain on Wednesday at 3 pm.
