The Lions are coming off a 21-13 season, a record-setting campaign that saw the Lions win a pair of postseason games. The 2012-13 campaign will have some familiar faces, including fifth-year senior Ashley Hamilton and All-Conference guard and leading scorer Anthony Ireland. However, it will be a roster filled with youth as the Lions welcome seven newcomers to a roster that has two seniors, four juniors and 10 underclassmen.

"We gained a lot of good experience last season and we have good leadership on this team," said Head Coach Max Good. "This team has a whole different feel to it, and we will be the hardest working team in this conference. And that starts with our leaders, and they have set the tone since day one this summer. We have some pieces to work with as we start this season, but we have a whole heck a lot of work to do."

The exhibition will provide a good early look at the Lions as they will be taking on another team who head a record setting season in 2011-12.

Point Loma finished the 2011-12 season 21-10 overall and 12-6 in conference, advancing to the NAIA Basketball Championships. They defeated Texas Wesleyan 74-44 in the first round but fell to top-ranked Shorter College.

Like the Lions, last season was a record-setting one for the Sea Lions. They won 20 games for the first time since the 2007-08 season and were ranked No. 16 in the final NAIA Coaches Poll. Head Coach Bill Carr will enter his second season at the helm but will have to make up for the loss of four seniors from last season's squad - Rhett Beal, Greg Murray, Wil Bush, and Jake Johnston.

The Sea Lions, however, return their leading scorer form last season, junior Marek Klassen, and their assist leader, junior Hayden Lescault. Klassen averaged 11.0 points last season, hitting 60-for-140 from the three-point line (42.9 percent), accounting for over half his field goals last season. Lescault had 100 assists a year ago and while also averaging 8.9 points per game.

Point Loma makes the move to NCAA Division II athletics this season, competing in the Pac West Conference.
