Head Coach Patrick Kelly

Patrick Kelly begins his second season as head coach of the men's and women's crew programs at Loyola Marymount University. The programs are in their second season back after being suspended for the 1998-99 season due to the sinking of the LMU boathouse. The new boathouse is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2000. A 1988 graduate of Loyola Marymount University, Kelly formerly served as the director for both programs from 1992-94.

The 1999-00 season saw LMU's Men's Varsity 8 qualify for the San Diego Crew Classic Cal Cup final for the first time since 1990. In addition, the Men's Varsity 4 won the Newport Regatta.

Kelly joined the staff after spending the 1998-99 season as the USC women's rowing assistant coach. Prior to working with the Trojans, Kelly served as program director for men's and women's rowing at UC Santa Barbara. There, he coached the varsity women's team for three years and the men's squad for one season.

An accomplished rower Kelly brings a wealth of experience to the programs. Kelly rowed varsity for the Lions for four seasons as an undergraduate and served as team captain in 1987 and 1988. He served as president of the Loyola Rowing Association and was twice awarded the Outstanding Oarsman Award (1988, 1989). Kelly was also a member of the United States Surfboat Rowing Team that competed in three world championships: Mooloolaba, Queensland, Australia in 1998, Kurrawa Beach, Gold Coast, Australia in 1995 and at Blacksmith's Beach, Swansea Belmont, Australia in 1994. He remains active in rowing, competing in head races and master's regattas.

Kelly graduated from Loyola Marymount University in 1988, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in biology and also earned his teaching credential. He taught full-time at St. Bernard High School in Playa del Rey, Calif. from 1989 to 1994. Kelly attended Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, Calif. Born on December 12, 1966 he is single and resides in Culver City, Calif.
