TUSCON, Ariz. – The Arizona Intercollegiate kicks off the spring championship season for Loyola Marymount golf. Loyola Marymount shot a 310 after the first round, to tie for fifth before sliding into eighth before darkness put a pause on round two.

“Conditions were very difficult today,” said Head Coach Jason D’Amore. “The winds were blowing 25 mph consistently with gusts from 35-40 mph. The guys hung in there and grinded all day.”

Riley Elmes shot a 73 in the opening round to position himself in the top three of the field.

Freshman Cameron Meeks finished the first round in a seven-way tie for 26th at 78 strokes, with Nick Jan a stoke back at 79 in 33rd

Matthew Carungay was at 9-over and Samuel Su was at 11-over through one.,

“It wasn’t our best golf today,” said D’Amore. “But in a quality field like this, we are in a good position to make a move tomorrow.”

Play will resume Tuesday morning at 8am with the remaining holes of round two, followed by the final round and medal ceremony.
