INDUSTRY HILLS, Caif. -- Junior Tyler Torano posted a career-best 67 in the second round of the 2013 Folino Men's Invitational presented by Automobile Club of Southern California. It was the lowest round of the tournament and has Torano within striking distance of the individual title entering Tuesday's final round.
After a 75 on the par-72 Industry Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palms in the first round on Sunday, Torano posted seven birdies in round two on Monday, including a three-under back nine to jump from 14th to a tie at third place with a two-round score of 142, two-under for the tournament.
The 67 paced the Lions on Monday as they finished with a team score of 299 to sit in fifth place with a two-round score of 601. They are seven strokes ahead of sixth-place CSU Bakersfield and trail fourth place Sacramento State by eight strokes. UC Irvine leads the field with a 577.
Also making a big move on the leaderboard on Monday was senior Bryan Bergna, who shot a 73 on Monday and moved from 34th after Sunday into a tie for 19th after two rounds with a score of 151.
Rounding out the Lions' scoring was senior Boris Stantchev in a tie for 31st with a 155, while freshman Connor Campbell and senior Eduardo Chavez are in a tie for 40th at 158.
