PALM DESERT, Calif. -- Loyola Marymount jumped seven spots after the final round of play to place eighth in the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate. LMU's Sunday surge came after a 9-under third round to put LMU at 295-298-279--872 for the tournament.

"It was a strong field and we took a big jump today to keep our postseason hopes alive," said Head Coach Jason D'Amore.

Matthew Carungay was a key piece to LMU's jump to close out the weekend.  The freshman shot a career-best 70-73-69--212 to move from 24th on Saturday to a tie for 15th at tournament end.

Moving up over 50 positions on the leaderboard between round two and three was Riley Elmes who capitalized on a team-best 66 on Sunday to finish at 75-76-66--217 and tie for 36th.

Also setting his career-best mark was Samuel Su. The fellow freshman shot a 73-74-74--221 to tie for 53rd in the 135-player field.

Billy Pollock finished two-under for Sunday's round and placed in a tie for 71st with his 79-75-70--224.

Cameron Meeks closed out the LMU five with his 77-81-76--234, also recording his low score on the final day.

The tournament was played at the Par 72 - 7322 Yards Classic Club.

The Lions will remain local this upcoming week, playing at Pepperdine's 2018 Southwestern Invitational at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village.
